MOQ explained: how private label minimums actually work

MOQ explained: how private label minimums actually work

MOQ is not a policy, it is arithmetic. It comes from four numbers: the minimum batch size a mixer can run, the minimum order of packaging components, the run speed of the filling line, and the cost of cleaning down between products.

Formula vs packaging

In most projects the binding constraint is packaging, not the liquid. A stock 30 ml dropper might have a 3,000-piece minimum; a custom-moulded airless bottle can start at 10,000–20,000. Choosing a stock component is the fastest way to lower your first order.

Bulk as a middle step

If you want to test the market before committing to packaging, buy bulk. We supply 100–200 kg drums that you can fill locally, which lets you validate demand at a fraction of the upfront cost.

What to ask a supplier

Ask for the MOQ per component, not per product. Ask whether the MOQ changes if you accept a longer lead time or a stock bottle. A supplier who breaks it down this way is telling you the truth.
